Our Programs
Educate and EmpowerFinding the hidden children
This is the first stage in our work. Our local volunteers visit remote villages asking if there are any disabled children. They document their disabilities and explain how the Foundation aims to help them.
‘We are known as the people who come looking for the disabled children’
Removing stigma
The next stage is to educate the whole community on the causes of disability and remove the stigma. This is a sensitive matter and we partner with local leaders to ensure that our message is tailored to local customs which significantly increases its impact. With many local languages, we also rely on our local leaders to translate.
Building awareness
We conduct seminars, camps and workshops on the causes of childhood disability, how to prevent disability, trauma recovery, early detection and early intervention.
Empowering
Through an understanding of disability, disabled children, their families and community know the OPPORTUNITIES and POSSIBILITIES for people living with disabilities and feel empowered to achieve much more.
Sustaining the change
Our empowerment also includes helping mothers of disabled children to sustain the health improvements for their child into the long term. Within pastoral communities men own the family assets. To assist mothers care for their disabled child, we donate goats to allow the mothers to use the goats milk to feed their child and any surplus milk can be sold for money to cater for basic health treatments for their child. A SIMPLE but EFFECTIVE solution in some cases.
